Lesson Plan – Students will distinguish the differences between Urban, Suburban and Rural Communities then recognize type of community in which they live. The lesson will conclude with the students creating a collage of images that pertain to their community type.

SMARTBoard Activity – Students will categorize images that pertain to each type of community then learn and utilize basic map reading skills. As included in the file, this is a map to print and handout to each student.

WebQuest – Students will explore the differences between urban, rural and suburban communities using different tools on the internet like BrainPop Jr. and an interactive map. Based on what they learned, the students will then write an opinion piece giving reasons why they choose to live in a certain area.
